La Caravelle, located on the Old Port, is a bar-restaurant that boasts one of the most authentic and charming rooftop terraces in Marseille. Surrounded by decor that has welcomed sailors since the 1920s, this venue is complemented with a balcony terrace that offers breathtaking views of the Old Port and the Notre Dame de la Garde.

I had the pleasure of visiting La Caravelle with some of my best friends, and we all agreed that this is a hidden gem in Marseille. The venue serves homemade Marseille cuisine for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and tapas. We had a sunny lunch on the terrace, which was fantastic. However, it was at night that the rooftop bar really came to life, and we had a blast.

The evening is set up in three stages, starting with an aperitif and wine tasting from 6.30 pm to 9 pm. After that, from 9 pm to 11 pm, it is time for cocktails, where you can taste bartender Viviane’s own creations, or ask for a ‘tailor-made’ one. Then from 11 pm to 2 am, it is fun until the end of the night. We all enjoyed the friendly and vibrant atmosphere, and on Wednesdays and Fridays, we were entertained by live jazz and pop concerts.

One of my friends commented that the rooftop terrace may be one of the smallest in Marseille, but it is also one of the most charming. Another friend recommended trying the cocktail creations of bartender Viviane, and I couldn’t agree more. The cocktails were delicious, and the bartender’s creativity was impressive.
