During our holiday trip to Copenhagen, my friends and I stumbled upon a true gem for the culinary visitor: the Illum Rooftop. Located on top of the Illum shopping mall, right on the famous Strøget, this diverse 4th floor rooftop offers a mix of restaurants, bars, cafés, and food markets with both indoor and outdoor seating options.

The views from up here are simply breathtaking and some of the best in the city, differing depending on which place up top you choose to visit. The long terrace that winds around half of the big building is divided between the different establishments, offering a unique perspective from each.

We had the pleasure of trying out Skagen Fiskerestaurant, which served fantastic fresh fish & seafood, and Rossopomodoro, a Neapolitan Kitchen & Pizzeria that served authentic and passionate Italian food. We also tried Palæo, a modern interpretation of the paleo lifestyle, which offered a unique taste of food from the Stone Age.

However, the highlight of our visit was undoubtedly The Original Coffee, which had the corner part of the terrace and offered vistas of the square below and all over Copenhagen. Our group was thoroughly impressed with the quality of food and drink on offer, and we all agreed that the Illum Rooftop truly had something for everyone.

The lovely food market was also a pleasant surprise and offered a great opportunity to stroll around and botanize among all the goodies available. Whether you’re looking for a shopping break with a beer, cocktail or coffee in the sun, a romantic dinner as the sun sets over Copenhagen, or simply to indulge in some gastronomic delights, the Illum Rooftop is the perfect place to visit.

Overall, we had a fantastic experience at the Illum Rooftop and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Copenhagen.
