During our recent business trip to Shanghai, my boyfriend and I stumbled upon The Roof at Waterhouse Hotel. What a hidden gem it turned out to be! Located on the banks of the Huangpu River, the hotel itself is a lovely boutique establishment with only 19 rooms, called The Waterhouse at South Bund.

Upon our arrival at the rooftop terrace, we were immediately struck by the stunning view of the Pudong skyline and the boats cruising by on the water, both day and night. The decor was perfectly in keeping with the hotel’s industrial design-feel, with uncluttered greenery and comfortable lounge furniture that invited us to relax and take in the view.

The rooftop bar offered a wide selection of creative cocktails, and we were delighted to learn that we could also order bar snacks from the hotel’s restaurant, Table No. 1, located downstairs. The atmosphere was relaxed and calm, with nice lounge music that kept us tapping our toes all throughout the evening.

What’s more, the prices at The Roof were surprisingly affordable compared to other rooftop bars we’ve visited in Shanghai. If you’re looking for a place to enjoy drinks and river views in a calm, sophisticated atmosphere, we highly recommend giving The Roof at Waterhouse Hotel a visit. It’s the perfect spot for a romantic evening out or a nightcap after a long day of business meetings.
