Last week, I had the pleasure of visiting Matou with my girlfriend and some of our best friends. This modern pan Asian restaurant and cocktail bar is located at the waterfront, on the second floor of the new Ferry Terminal in Liverpool. Upon entering, we were mesmerized by the stylish indoor main dining area with panoramic windows offering astonishing views over River Mersey. The spacious rooftop terrace was equally impressive, providing us with spectacular views of Liverpool Waterfront and the prestigious buildings of the Pier Head.
The name “Pan Asian Restaurant” suggests a fine dining mix of dishes from the Far East, and Matou did not disappoint. We indulged in a variety of dishes from Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Japan and China, all exquisitely presented and bursting with flavors. My girlfriend particularly enjoyed the sushi rolls, while our friends raved about the curries. The service was impeccable, and the staff was knowledgeable about the menu and able to offer recommendations.
But Matou is not just about food. The rooftop bar offers an extensive selection of gin, well-made cocktails, wines, champagne, and premium spirits. My girlfriend and I shared a bottle of champagne while enjoying the magnificent views.
The atmosphere at Matou is sophisticated yet vibrant. It is a perfect venue for a sunny lunch, a fine dinner, or al-fresco drinks in between, indulging in views over both historical buildings and the waterfront. We were impressed by the opening hours on Fridays and Saturdays, from 12.00 – 00.00, allowing us to enjoy the venue’s offerings both during the day and into the night.
