Upon my visit to ONYX Rooftop Bar, Santa Monica’s only indoor-outdoor rooftop bar, I was immediately struck by the Hollywood glamour meets ocean vibes. The views over the Pacific, the beach, and the pier are simply breathtaking. My brother and I, along with our group of friends, were looking for a sophisticated yet casual spot to celebrate his upcoming nuptials, and ONYX delivered on all fronts.

The carefully curated drink menu provided us with an extensive selection of libations to choose from, and the bar bites were the perfect snack to accompany our drinks. During the earlier hours of the night, the atmosphere was more of a casual beachside bar, which was perfect for us to unwind after a long day of activities. However, as the night progressed, the mood changed to that of a lounge/nightclub, complete with a live DJ and a more strict dress code.

My brother couldn’t stop raving about the music, saying that it was the perfect mix between classic hits and contemporary beats. The smart casual dress code added to the upscale vibe of the venue, making us feel like we were a part of the Hollywood elite. We highly recommend visiting ONYX earlier in the night, during weekday happy hour from 4-6pm, to catch the absolutely amazing sunset over the Pacific Ocean. The experience was truly unforgettable, and we couldn’t have asked for a better spot to celebrate such a special occasion.

The ONYX rooftop bar is located on top of the Sonder The Beacon, formerly known as the Shangri-La Hotel, at 1301 Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica, CA. It’s worth noting that the opening hours on Fridays and Saturdays are from 11.00-00.00, so make sure to plan accordingly. Overall, the ONYX rooftop bar exceeded our expectations and we can’t wait to come back for more.
