Thompson Playa del Carmen is a luxurious dreamscape rooftop oasis that exceeded my expectations. As the hotel can be found all across North America, it was thrilling to indulge in its grandeur on Quinta Avenida in Playa del Carmen. The rooftop setting was truly impressive with several day to night options, and the top floor was adorned with two rooftop restaurants, a bar & lounge, a dayclub and a smashing rooftop infinity pool. The panoramic views of the Mexican Caribbean were breathtaking, stretching as far as Cozumel.

I arrived at the Alessia Rooftop Restaurant for my Tinder date, and it was a stylish and spacious open-air dining room where we enjoyed globally influenced, locally sourced cuisine. The ambiance was enchanting, and it was fascinating to learn that the space transforms into one of Playa del Carmen’s premier nightlife destinations, with live DJs and a generous drinks menu. My date and I could not resist the temptation to visit the second rooftop restaurant, Cinco, which offered a more casual rooftop poolside atmosphere. We were thrilled to discover the Yucatán-inspired menu, which was served daily as both breakfast and lunch. The weekend rooftop brunch was exceptional, featuring a 4-course menu, live stations with fresh sushi bar and ceviche, as well as bottomless mimosas.

To enjoy drinks and bites with a dip in the rooftop pool, we visited the Alessia Dayclub. As an outside visitor, we had to buy a day-pass, which was $650 MXN on weekdays and $850 MXN on weekends. Although not for free, most of the cost could be turned into food and beverage consumption, and we got to enjoy a refreshing and top-class rooftop experience.
