Last week, my girlfriend and I had the pleasure of visiting Sir Elly’s Terrace at the luxurious Peninsula Shanghai hotel with some of our closest friends. The 14th floor terrace offers an elegant rooftop with panoramic views over the river and skyline that are truly breathtaking.
Sir Elly’s Terrace is a stylishly decorated, timber-decked terrace with a very open and airy feel. The prime location right on the major bend in the Huangpu River gives a spectacular view of the Pudong skyline and all the boats gliding by in the water outside. It’s the perfect venue for some fancy and relaxing sunset drinks or some after-dinner cocktails.
The selection of modern European light dishes to go with the drinks was a real highlight for us. My girlfriend particularly enjoyed the chilled wines and champagne cocktails, which are a specialty here. The cocktails were well mixed, and the rare whiskeys were a real treat.
Our friend who is a foodie was really impressed with Sir Elly’s Restaurant on the 13th floor, which offers Michelin-starred modern European cuisine. He said the indoor dining area was very elegant, and the food was exceptional. We didn’t have the chance to try it ourselves, but it’s definitely on our list for our next visit.
The terrace is a perfect setting for conversations and soaking in the view. There is usually a live DJ playing laid back tunes, creating a relaxing atmosphere. The opening hours on Fridays and Saturdays are from 18.00 – 23.00, which is the perfect time to take in the sunset and watch the city light up.
Overall, Sir Elly’s Terrace at the Peninsula Shanghai hotel was an excellent experience, and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for a sophisticated atmosphere with great drinks and food. The terrace offers one of the best panoramic views of the city, and it’s definitely worth a visit.
